Professional Biography
Dr Basson completed his medical degree in South Africa, in 1999, where he then furthered his studies to complete his Diploma in Anaesthesia. This is where his love for the speciality began!
He then expanded his experience, by working in London for 4 years, where he met his wife.
With his new family, he migrated to Australia in 2006, which he has affectionately called home ever since.
His Anaesthesia journey progressed in Brisbane, at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and paediatric anaesthesia at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
In 2011, after obtaining fellowship to the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, Dr Basson started working at Nambour and the Sunshine Coast University Hospitals.
He subsequently moved into private practice, on the Sunshine Coast, where he currently works part-time, servicing the local private hospitals.
Having worked with a wide variety of surgeons, locally & internationally, has exposed him to a broad range of techniques.
This has resulted in Dr Basson being extremely comfortable and confident in providing the personalised anaesthesia, best suited to each procedure and patient.
Other Interests
Dr Basson is a devoted husband and father to his wife & their two sons. As a family they enjoy keeping healthy and fit, with a fondness for the ocean, tennis, golf, Pilates and gym. His other great love is his Ducati V4.
